Alyssa, M.38

The temporal design is written in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), establishing an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. The indicated tempo mark of ♩ = 92 BPM (*Tempo comodo*) suggests an atmosphere that is composed with disciplined, graceful rhythm. Interpretively, subdivide internally with relaxed forearm weight to prevent metric stiffness across bar lines.

Targeted at Intermediate players (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this score presents rewarding interpretive and tactile hurdles. Attention should center on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Accompaniment passages containing transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion require subdued dynamics to spotlight the melody. Mechanically, lift the damper pedal cleanly on phrase boundaries to preserve classical transparency. Practice Recommendation: record your practice with emphasis on listening for crisp pedal releases on each harmonic pivot. Score pointer: Follow the composer's harmonic progression. Focus on balanced voicing between the melody and accompaniment, observing tempo rubato and pedal markings.

Anchored in C Major, this work utilizes a key signature of zero sharps and zero flats. The composer builds structural coherence around C, deploying the relative pole (A Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through G Major. The chordal vocabulary centers upon stable tonic statements alternating with G Major pivots. Under the fingers, C Major features a natural diatonic surface where the absence of black keys demands disciplined hand stability and balanced posture.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Alyssa, M.38 is well matched for formal piano masterclasses, recital auditions, and degree juries.

Transposition Guide: When adjusting the native tonality of C Major, accompanists can shift down a step to B-flat Major for lower voice types or lift the melody into D Major for tenors and sopranos. Woodwinds read comfortably using G Major.
