Another Sky

Another Sky highlights Taro Hakase's refined handling of musical materials in the contemporary pop piano repertory. The complete engraving encompasses 104 measures across 5 pages, verified against standard contemporary studio engravings. Bibliographic registers identify this title under ISWC `T-113.E31.39-1` and catalog entry `mbid-113e3139-pianistforum`.

Cast in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), the score delivers a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. At ♩ = 94 BPM (*Andantino*), the musical progression remains moderately flowing with clear articulation. Pedagogical directive: channel energy through the middle beats toward subsequent downbeats to preserve continuous phrasing arcs.

Pedagogically suited for Intermediate students (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this piece develops essential touch control. Key challenges focus on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. In sections with flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks, maintain flexible forearm rotation to prevent stiffness. Pedaling requirement: execute full pedal clears at dynamic changes to highlight intimate moments. Study Routine: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending.

Framed in F Major, the score establishes F through a key signature featuring one flat (B♭). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (D Minor) alongside strong cadential support from C Major. Harmonically, the progression F → G → Am → Dm → G7 rests on a half-cadential dominant harmony that builds musical anticipation. In terms of hand topography, F Major yields an expansive keyboard color historically prized for tranquil, pastoral cantabile expressions.

Performance Applications: In performance programming, Another Sky is well matched for popular piano showcases, private lessons, and collaborative sessions.

Transposition Guide: While engraved in F Major, the work accommodates vocal adjustments readily: modulating down into E-flat Major eases strain for baritones, whereas moving upward to G Major highlights brilliance in soprano or tenor solos.
