Assigned an overall Intermediate rating (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), the composition exercises manual independence. The central obstacle centers on projecting the cantabile soprano melody while suppressing inner accompaniment voices. In performing transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion, keep finger knuckles rounded and poised. For acoustic hygiene, employ syncopated pedal changes immediately following each chordal shift to avoid acoustic blurs. Preparatory Exercise: practice left-hand harmonic leaps with closed eyes to develop spatial keyboard instinct.

Tonal grounding is defined by C-sharp Minor, marked in the score by four sharps (F♯, C♯, G♯, D♯, alongside B♯ leading tone). The music alternates stability on C♯ with expressive harmonic excursions toward E Major and its parallel relation, C-sharp Major. Harmonically, the progression C#m → F#m → B → E → G#7 weaves cohesive chordal shifts (E, G#7) supporting melodic variety before resolving. Physically, playing in this key offers a stormy, virtuosic register immortalized by Beethoven and Chopin, highly conducive to rolling arpeggio sweeps.
