Arirang – Flute & Piano (E-flat Major)

The rhythmic foundation is anchored in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), yielding a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. Paced at ♩ = 107 BPM (Allegro moderato), the tempo projects a lively with energetic forward stride musical mood. To refine rhythmic clarity, subdivide internally with relaxed forearm weight to prevent metric stiffness across bar lines.

Key challenges focus on coordinating independent dynamic levels between hands while maintaining steady metric propulsion. In sections with Alberti bass patterns and contrapuntal voice exchanges, maintain flexible forearm rotation to prevent stiffness. Pedaling requirement: coordinate pedal depressions immediately after finger strikes to keep harmonies articulate. Technical Drill: practice left-hand harmonic leaps with closed eyes to develop spatial keyboard instinct.

Set within the harmonic domain of E-flat Major (three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭)), the score secures tonal focus on E♭. Expressive depth is enhanced through secondary pivots into C Minor and dominant reinforcement via B-flat Major. Harmonically, the progression Eb → Bb → Cm → Ab weaves cohesive chordal shifts (Cm, Ab) supporting melodic variety before resolving. Physically, playing in this key offers a noble and expansive tonal landscape historically associated with solemn grandeur and expressive weight.
