Arirang – Flute & Piano (E Major)

Tonal grounding is defined by E Major, marked in the score by four sharps (F♯, C♯, G♯, D♯). The music alternates stability on E with expressive harmonic excursions toward C-sharp Minor and its parallel relation, E Minor. Harmonically, the progression E → B → C#m → A weaves cohesive chordal shifts (C#m, A) supporting melodic variety before resolving. Under the fingers, E Major features a comfortable keyboard geometry where four black keys support curved finger posture naturally.

Arirang – Flute & Piano (E Major), credited to Traditional World, occupies an established chapter within the popular classical sheet music repertoire. this 2-page transcription spans 40 measures, drawing from verified performance editions and modern engravings. This Intermediate publication (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)) serves as an instructive study in keyboard voicing. Pianists must address projecting the cantabile soprano melody while suppressing inner accompaniment voices. Passages dominated by transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion benefit from conscious dynamic shading. Regarding pedal usage, employ syncopated pedal changes immediately following each chordal shift to avoid acoustic blurs. Preparatory Exercise: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending.

The temporal design is written in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), establishing a well-proportioned metric pulse alternating primary and secondary stresses across the measure. The indicated tempo mark of ♩ = 107 BPM (*Animato*) suggests an atmosphere that is cheerful with buoyant rhythmic bounce. Interpretively, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.
