Carillon, Op.75

Positioned within the Intermediate repertoire (transitional keyboard syllabus (ABRSM Grade 4 to Trinity Grade 5)), this work offers valuable training in balance and tone. Performers must concentrate on achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. Navigating articulated bass staccatos against singing right-hand runs asks for deliberate finger weight distribution. To preserve clarity, lift the damper pedal cleanly on phrase boundaries to preserve classical transparency. Practice Recommendation: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface. Score pointer: Juilliard Practice Blueprint for Carillon, Op.75: Master hands-separate voice isolation at 65% tempo. Focus on balanced hand independence, singing tone projecti.

Rhythmic momentum flows through a 4/4 metric framework (simple quadruple meter). Calibrated to ♩ = 88 BPM (*Tempo comodo*), the piece moves with a composed with disciplined, graceful rhythm pulse. As a practical study rule, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

With C Major as the primary tonal anchor, the notation designates zero sharps and zero flats. Phrase arches gravitate toward C, counterpointed by coloristic pivots into A Minor and subdominant foundations in F Major. The chordal vocabulary centers upon stable tonic statements alternating with G Major pivots. Keyboardists will find that C Major creates a natural diatonic surface where the absence of black keys demands disciplined hand stability and balanced posture.
