Anchored in E-flat Major, this work utilizes a key signature of three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭). The composer builds structural coherence around E♭, deploying the relative pole (C Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through B-flat Major. Harmonically, the progression Eb → Bb → Cm → Ab weaves cohesive chordal shifts (Cm, Ab) supporting melodic variety before resolving. Pianistically, the key produces a deeply expressive layout that encourages an open, tension-free hand arch on rolling chord figures.

Targeted at Intermediate players (transitional keyboard syllabus (ABRSM Grade 4 to Trinity Grade 5)), this score presents rewarding interpretive and tactile hurdles. Attention should center on achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. Accompaniment passages containing articulated bass staccatos against singing right-hand runs require subdued dynamics to spotlight the melody. Mechanically, coordinate pedal depressions immediately after finger strikes to keep harmonies articulate. Recommended Exercise: record your practice with emphasis on listening for crisp pedal releases on each harmonic pivot.

In 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), rhythmic continuity is shaped by a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. The reference performance speed is ♩ = 104 BPM (*Allegro moderato*), yielding a lively with energetic forward stride tempo profile. From a phrasing standpoint, avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.

While engraved in E-flat Major, the work accommodates vocal adjustments readily: modulating down into D-flat Major eases strain for baritones, whereas moving upward to F Major highlights brilliance in soprano or tenor solos.
