Doraji – Flute & Piano (C Minor) Urtext Performance Practice Edition & Harmonic Study Guide

Targeted at Intermediate players (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this score presents rewarding interpretive and tactile hurdles. Attention should center on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Accompaniment passages containing transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion require subdued dynamics to spotlight the melody. Mechanically, lift the damper pedal cleanly on phrase boundaries to preserve classical transparency. Practice Focus: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.

Doraji – Flute & Piano (C Minor), credited to Traditional World, occupies an established chapter within the popular classical sheet music repertoire. this 2-page transcription spans 40 measures, drawing from standard contemporary studio engravings. Anchored in C Minor, this work utilizes a key signature of three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, with B♮ raised leading tone). The composer builds structural coherence around C, deploying the relative pole (E-flat Major) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through G Major. Harmonically, the progression Cm → Fm → Bb → Eb → G7 achieves harmonic stability via a classic authentic closure into the final tonic. In terms of hand topography, C Minor yields a commanding acoustic realm with abrupt dynamic contrasts between minor darkness and major relief.

Metric propulsion relies on 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), giving the piece a balanced metric groundwork providing grounded stability with primary weight on beat one and secondary stress on beat three. Set to a metronome speed of ♩ = 107 BPM (*Allegretto*), the overall character feels moderately brisk, bright, and buoyant. Pianists should ensure that they channel energy through the middle beats toward subsequent downbeats to preserve continuous phrasing arcs.
