Earth Shadow Piano Solo Arrangement with Chords, Metronome & BPM

Created by Tommy Burch, the composition Earth Shadow demonstrates notable craftsmanship within the popular pop sheet music repertoire. Encompassing 94 measures over 5 engraved pages, the work is collated from standard contemporary studio engravings. Authority databases register this work as `mbid-08aa719f-pianistforum` and ISWC `T-08A.A71.9F-1`.

Framed in C Minor, the score establishes C through a key signature featuring three flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, with B♮ raised leading tone). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (E-flat Major) alongside strong cadential support from G Major. Harmonically, the progression Cm → Dm → G → C → F → E7 cycles smoothly through harmonic steps (F, E7) back toward the tonic. Pianistically, the key produces a commanding acoustic realm with abrupt dynamic contrasts between minor darkness and major relief.

Rhythmic momentum flows through a 4/4 metric framework (simple quadruple meter). Calibrated to ♩ = 114 BPM (*Tempo di marcia*), the piece moves with a spirited with crisp finger articulation pulse. As a practical study rule, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

Graded at the Intermediate level (intermediate benchmark (ABRSM/RCM Grade 4–6)), the score fosters disciplined keyboard ergonomics. The primary technical hurdle involves coordinating independent dynamic levels between hands while maintaining steady metric propulsion. When negotiating broken arpeggio figures and modern pulse chords, ensure the singing melody stays dynamically elevated over the accompaniment. Acoustically, execute full pedal clears at dynamic changes to highlight intimate moments. Preparatory Exercise: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.

When programming this selection, music educators frequently schedule Earth Shadow for popular piano showcases, private lessons, and collaborative sessions. To accommodate diverse vocal registers, accompanists can transpose the C Minor score: baritones rest easily in B-flat Minor, while lyric tenors and high soloists project effortlessly in D Minor.
