Jazz Chorale

Graded at the Intermediate level (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), the score fosters disciplined keyboard ergonomics. The primary technical hurdle involves managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. When negotiating four-voice hymn textures demanding strict tenor and alto balance, ensure the singing melody stays dynamically elevated over the accompaniment. Acoustically, use legato pedaling that connects chord roots without smearing vocal lines. Technical Drill: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending. Score pointer: Sanctuary Rehearsal Blueprint for Jazz Chorale: Master Tenor and Bass voice leading at 70 BPM. Voice soprano melody prominently for congregational singing. Targ.

The foundational pitch center is F Major (one flat (B♭)). Here, F serves as the primary resting point, while modulations into D Minor and dominant tensions in C Major shape the emotional contour. Harmonically, the musical line relies on fundamental triad relationships (B-flat Major and C Major) around the tonic root. From a tactile perspective, navigating this key delivers a pastoral acoustic palette where the subdominant B♭ asks for careful fourth finger extension in the right hand.
