O decus celsi, LV 721

Positioned within the Intermediate repertoire (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this work offers valuable training in balance and tone. Performers must concentrate on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Navigating transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion asks for deliberate finger weight distribution. To preserve clarity, employ syncopated pedal changes immediately following each chordal shift to avoid acoustic blurs. Practice Recommendation: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface. Cast in C Major (zero sharps and zero flats), the composition organizes its melodic arcs around C. Dynamic tension arises from modulatory motion toward the relative mode of A Minor, balanced by harmonic stabilization from F Major. The chordal vocabulary centers upon stable tonic statements alternating with G Major pivots. At the keyboard, C Major provides a natural diatonic surface where the absence of black keys demands disciplined hand stability and balanced posture.
