Rag Dolls

The score Rag Dolls, composed by Various Artists, reflects the stylistic idioms of the classic American syncopated keyboard tradition. This edition contains 66 measures formatted across 3 pages, corroborated through archival American ragtime anthologies. Worldwide rights catalogs anchor this title under ISWC code `T-BD5.B04.2E-1`.

Operating within 4/4, this simple quadruple meter generates a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. The benchmark tempo of ♩ = 77 BPM (Andante con moto) conveys a moving at a tranquil, forward-leaning pulse sensibility. During execution, subdivide internally with relaxed forearm weight to prevent metric stiffness across bar lines.

Framed in A Major, the score establishes A through a key signature featuring three sharps (F♯, C♯, G♯). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (F-sharp Minor) alongside strong cadential support from E Major. Harmonically, the progression A → G → Am → F → Dm → G7 concludes with a questioning dominant pivot that commands forward continuation. From a tactile perspective, navigating this key delivers an energetic keyboard layout that requires flexible wrist alignment across three elevated pitches.

Designed for Intermediate level pianists (mid-tier conservatory syllabus (ABRSM Grade 5 standard)), this piece demands clean articulation and hand balance. The chief hurdle entails projecting the cantabile soprano melody while suppressing inner accompaniment voices. Balancing swinging root-fifth bass figures and crisp syncopations requires distinct volume separation between parts. Furthermore, avoid heavy damper sustaining that would blur stride jumps. Practice Focus: record your practice with emphasis on listening for crisp pedal releases on each harmonic pivot.

When programming this selection, music educators frequently schedule Rag Dolls for contemporary vocal accompaniment, student recitals, and studio recordings. The default key of A Major suits standard instrumental ranges. Vocalists seeking a lower tessitura can transpose down to G Major, while high-register singers modulate up to B Major. B♭ brass transpose to B Major. From an attribution perspective: Distributed as an educational study score under `unknown`, formatted for analytical classroom research.
