Shallow Piano Solo Arrangement with Chords, Metronome & BPM

Shallow, credited to Jaboyle Erve, occupies an established chapter within the modern pop keyboard selections. this 3-page transcription spans 56 measures, drawing from verified performance editions and modern engravings. Rights records link the piece to ISWC `T-7EE.2C5.1E-1` and bibliographic identifier `mbid-7ee2c51e-pianistforum`.

The rhythmic foundation is anchored in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), yielding a balanced metric groundwork providing grounded stability with primary weight on beat one and secondary stress on beat three. Paced at ♩ = 82 BPM (Andante), the tempo projects a flowing at a graceful walking pace musical mood. To refine rhythmic clarity, channel energy through the middle beats toward subsequent downbeats to preserve continuous phrasing arcs.

Designed for Intermediate level pianists (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this piece demands clean articulation and hand balance. The chief hurdle entails projecting the cantabile soprano melody while suppressing inner accompaniment voices. Balancing flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks requires distinct volume separation between parts. Furthermore, feather the pedal to sustain bass notes without drowning upper textures. Practice Recommendation: practice left-hand harmonic leaps with closed eyes to develop spatial keyboard instinct.

The foundational pitch center is E Minor (one sharp (F♯, with D♯ harmonic inflection)). Here, E serves as the primary resting point, while modulations into G Major and dominant tensions in B Major shape the emotional contour. Harmonically, the progression Em → Dm → G → C → F → E7 cycles smoothly through harmonic steps (F, E7) back toward the tonic. Keyboardists will find that E Minor creates a dark melancholic sonority where the raised accidental D♯ supplies dramatic harmonic tension.

When programming this selection, music educators frequently schedule Shallow for contemporary vocal accompaniment, student recitals, and studio recordings. Adapting the original E Minor setting is straightforward: lower tessituras find comfort in D Minor, whereas soprano instruments or solo flutes achieve singing resonance in F-sharp Minor.
