Soran Bushi – Flute & Piano (E Major)

Positioned within the Intermediate repertoire (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this work offers valuable training in balance and tone. Performers must concentrate on managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Navigating transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion asks for deliberate finger weight distribution. To preserve clarity, use light, shallow pedaling to enhance acoustic warmth without muddling inner voices. Technical Drill: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending.

Anchored in E Major, this work utilizes a key signature of four sharps (F♯, C♯, G♯, D♯). The composer builds structural coherence around E, deploying the relative pole (C-sharp Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through B Major. Harmonically, the progression E → B → C#m → A navigates expressive chord variations (C#m, A) returning home cleanly. Pianistically, the key produces a brilliant resonance favored for its tactile ease when playing rapid scalar figures deeper in the keys.
