Soran Bushi – Flute & Piano (E Major)

Framed in E Major, the score establishes E through a key signature featuring four sharps (F♯, C♯, G♯, D♯). Harmonic variety is enriched through dialogue with the relative minor/major (C-sharp Minor) alongside strong cadential support from B Major. Harmonically, the progression E → B → C#m → A navigates expressive chord variations (C#m, A) returning home cleanly. In terms of hand topography, E Major yields a well-proportioned terrain that fits the hand anatomy comfortably across its four sharp accidentals.

This Intermediate publication (intermediate benchmark (ABRSM/RCM Grade 4–6)) serves as an instructive study in keyboard voicing. Pianists must address coordinating independent dynamic levels between hands while maintaining steady metric propulsion. Passages dominated by Alberti bass patterns and contrapuntal voice exchanges benefit from conscious dynamic shading. Regarding pedal usage, coordinate pedal depressions immediately after finger strikes to keep harmonies articulate. Preparatory Exercise: practice left-hand harmonic leaps with closed eyes to develop spatial keyboard instinct.

The temporal design is written in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), establishing an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. The indicated tempo mark of ♩ = 107 BPM (*Tempo di marcia*) suggests an atmosphere that is spirited with crisp finger articulation. Interpretively, listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.
