Terpsichore, Op.81

The rhythmic foundation is anchored in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), yielding a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. Paced at ♩ = 88 BPM (Andantino), the tempo projects a moderately flowing with clear articulation musical mood. To refine rhythmic clarity, avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.

Graded at the Intermediate level (intermediate benchmark (ABRSM/RCM Grade 4–6)), the score fosters disciplined keyboard ergonomics. The primary technical hurdle involves coordinating independent dynamic levels between hands while maintaining steady metric propulsion. When negotiating Alberti bass patterns and contrapuntal voice exchanges, ensure the singing melody stays dynamically elevated over the accompaniment. Acoustically, lift the damper pedal cleanly on phrase boundaries to preserve classical transparency. Practice Tip: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.
