Trahison

Cast in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), the score delivers an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. At ♩ = 92 BPM (*Tempo comodo*), the musical progression remains composed with disciplined, graceful rhythm. Pedagogical directive: listen for the overarching four-bar hypermeter to keep phrases singing rather than measure-bound.

Pedagogically suited for Intermediate students (intermediate study curriculum (RCM Level 5–6)), this piece develops essential touch control. Key challenges focus on achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. In sections with transparent two-part polyphony and classical Alberti motion, maintain flexible forearm rotation to prevent stiffness. Pedaling requirement: employ syncopated pedal changes immediately following each chordal shift to avoid acoustic blurs. Study Routine: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending. Score pointer: Follow the composer's harmonic progression. Focus on balanced voicing between the melody and accompaniment, observing tempo rubato and pedal markings.

With C Major as the primary tonal anchor, the notation designates zero sharps and zero flats. Phrase arches gravitate toward C, counterpointed by coloristic pivots into A Minor and subdominant foundations in F Major. Voice leading proceeds primarily through diatonic harmonic motion involving tonic, subdominant, and dominant degrees. Under the fingers, C Major features an unadorned keyboard topography requiring precise thumb tucks without black-key tactile markers.

Pianists frequently schedule this piece for conservatory juries, competition recitals, and academic examinations. To accommodate diverse vocal registers, accompanists can transpose the C Major score: baritones rest easily in B-flat Major, while lyric tenors and high soloists project effortlessly in D Major.
