Arirang – Flute & Piano (A-flat Major)

Operating within 4/4, this simple quadruple meter generates an authoritative quadruple framework where downbeat accents anchor the overarching phrase architecture. The benchmark tempo of ♩ = 107 BPM (Tempo di marcia) conveys a spirited with crisp finger articulation sensibility. During execution, channel energy through the middle beats toward subsequent downbeats to preserve continuous phrasing arcs.

Anchored in A-flat Major, this work utilizes a key signature of four flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, D♭). The composer builds structural coherence around A♭, deploying the relative pole (F Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through E-flat Major. Harmonically, the progression Ab → Eb → Fm → Db navigates expressive chord variations (Fm, Db) returning home cleanly. In terms of hand topography, A-flat Major yields an atmospheric acoustic palette popular in Romantic nocturnes for its warm, singing treble register.
