Anchored in A-flat Major, this work utilizes a key signature of four flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, D♭). The composer builds structural coherence around A♭, deploying the relative pole (F Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through E-flat Major. Harmonically, the progression Ab → Eb → Fm → Db moves through balanced harmonic transitions (Fm, Db) reinforcing the tonal root. Under the fingers, A-flat Major features a luxurious keyboard geometry that minimizes finger travel between inner harmonies and melodic leaps.

Designed for Intermediate level pianists (transitional keyboard syllabus (ABRSM Grade 4 to Trinity Grade 5)), this piece demands clean articulation and hand balance. The chief hurdle entails managing two-part hand coordination and synchronizing pedal changes with harmonic shifts. Balancing articulated bass staccatos against singing right-hand runs requires distinct volume separation between parts. Furthermore, lift the damper pedal cleanly on phrase boundaries to preserve classical transparency. Recommended Exercise: drill awkward chord shifts at 60% tempo, ensuring fingers assume target hand shapes before descending.

In 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), rhythmic continuity is shaped by a well-proportioned metric pulse alternating primary and secondary stresses across the measure. The reference performance speed is ♩ = 94 BPM (*Moderato grazioso*), yielding a stable with buoyant, relaxed momentum tempo profile. From a phrasing standpoint, avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.
