Doraji – Flute & Piano (A-flat Major)

This Intermediate publication (mid-tier conservatory syllabus (ABRSM Grade 5 standard)) serves as an instructive study in keyboard voicing. Pianists must address achieving fluid finger legato without relying on the damper pedal to mask uneven key releases. Passages dominated by broken classical triad figures and balanced inner dialogue benefit from conscious dynamic shading. Regarding pedal usage, coordinate pedal depressions immediately after finger strikes to keep harmonies articulate. Study Routine: play the melody forte while ghost-tapping the accompaniment keys silently beneath the surface.

Set within the harmonic domain of A-flat Major (four flats (B♭, E♭, A♭, D♭)), the score secures tonal focus on A♭. Expressive depth is enhanced through secondary pivots into F Minor and dominant reinforcement via E-flat Major. Harmonically, the progression Ab → Eb → Fm → Db cycles smoothly through harmonic steps (Fm, Db) back toward the tonic. At the keyboard, A-flat Major provides a deep sonority that encourages relaxed arm weight transfer into the cushioned depth of the keyboard bed.

Rhythmic momentum flows through a 4/4 metric framework (simple quadruple meter). Calibrated to ♩ = 97 BPM (*Andantino*), the piece moves with a moderately flowing with clear articulation pulse. As a practical study rule, channel energy through the middle beats toward subsequent downbeats to preserve continuous phrasing arcs.

When programming this selection, music educators frequently schedule Doraji – Flute & Piano (A-flat Major) for studio recitals, competitive festivals, and scholarly score readings.
