Rain

Anchored in D Major, this work utilizes a key signature of two sharps (F♯, C♯). The composer builds structural coherence around D, deploying the relative pole (B Minor) to introduce tonal contrast before resolving through A Major. Harmonically, the progression D → G → Am → F → Dm → G7 suspends tension over an active dominant chord awaiting tonal release. In terms of hand topography, D Major yields a resonant harmonic domain where the dual sharps guide the thumb cleanly beneath fingers two and three.

Targeted at Easy players (foundation study curriculum (RCM Level 1–2)), this score presents rewarding interpretive and tactile hurdles. Attention should center on securing rhythmic stability between hands and navigating gentle five-finger position changes. Accompaniment passages containing flowing keyboard arpeggios that support emotional melodic peaks require subdued dynamics to spotlight the melody. Mechanically, coordinate pedaling with chord changes to maintain acoustic warmth. Practice Focus: rehearse hands individually with a metronome at slow speeds before coordinating hands together.

Cast in 4/4 (simple quadruple meter), the score delivers a steady common-time pulse providing natural rhythmic symmetry across four quarter-note subdivisions. At ♩ = 119 BPM (*Allegro moderato*), the musical progression remains lively with energetic forward stride. Pedagogical directive: avoid pounding downbeats mechanically; keep the line buoyant through intermediate pulses.
